Motor hopper Jin Hang Bo 53 sank in Port Elizabeth, SAR, on New Year’s Day close to the extensions to the port’s container terminal, reports Ports and Ships. There were no injuries and all of the crew were taken ashore. A boom was placed around the vessel which us lying in a semi-submerged position inside the harbour but not in a position to interfere with port workings. Captain Nigel Campbell, SAMSA, said there appeared to be a hole, and that preparations to refloat dredger are under way, salvage to start Jan 4. Dredger meanwhile, is issuing AIS signal.
