Tanker Arowana United hijacked in South China sea in GoG piracy style

Malaysian bunker tanker Arowana United was hijacked by pirates at Labuan anchorage, Malaysia, Borneo, sometime between Oct 14 and 20. Pirates released vessel on Oct 26 after stealing her cargo, about 650 tons of fuel worth about $650,000, and robbing the crew and the vessel of anything having any value, from cash to personal belongings. 3 of the 8 crew were required to take vessel to Pulau Natuna, where the cargo was stole, the rest were locked in a cabin. Pirates destroyed all the communication and navigational equipment before leaving the vessel. Crew are generally unharmed except some light injures. Bunker tanker Arowana United IMO 8613633, dwt 1065, built 1986, flag Malaysia, manager BAN HOE LEONG MARINE SUPPLIES. On a media photo tanker after the release – pirates painted over part of the vessel’s name making it Arow. Apparently Indonesian pirates are quickly learning from the successes of their African colleagues.
