516 passengers safely evacuated from disabled ferry St. Thomas of Aquinas, Philippines



Ferry St. Thomas of Aquinas was emergency anchored off Iloilo City in Iloilo Strait after an engine failure on Sep 16 2012. Vessel was approaching Iloilo en route from Manila with 561 passengers on board. A tug was sent to the distressed ferry, but the initial plan of towing ferry to Iloilo was rejected as tug was too small. It was decided to transfer all passengers from ferry to port by tug or tugs, by 16:00 LT all the passengers were safely transferred to the port.
