Capesize bulk carrier Flash aground, Med

Early in the morning June 25 capesize bulk carrier Flash ran aground near Galite Islands, Tunisia, Mediterranean sea. Vessel was en route from Baltimore USA to Taranto, Italy, loaded with 126000 tons of coal. Vessel suffered structural damages in number of ballast tanks and engine room, said MaltaThe Marine Safety Investigation Unit (MSIU). No pollution reported. Salvage is under way, to pump out fuel and then to lighten vessel, it means bulk carrier stuck fast. It’s not clear yet what caused grounding. Bulk carrier Flash IMO 9522879, dwt 177996, built 2009, flag Malta, manager GENEL DENIZCILIK NAKLIYATI, Turkey, in 2011 crew was all Turkish.
