Vessel found aground and abandoned in Currimao, Ilocos Norte


On September 9, 2010 at 8:00am, Coast Guard Station Currimao received report that a foreign vessel ran aground near the shoreline of Barangay Pangil, Currimao, Ilocos Norte. Immediately, CG Station Currimao personnel proceeded to the area and the vessel was sighted lying aground and abandoned by its crew on a rocky portion some 40 meters from the shoreline of said barangay.
Informal inquiry conducted with the residents revealed that said vessel named MV Ocean Star about 30 meters in length ran aground about September 9, 2010 at 2:00am. The whereabouts of the crew is still unknown but one life raft was sighted near the vicinity believed to have been used by the crew in abandoning the vessel.
At 8:30am, combined personnel of CG Station Currimao, PNP Currimao and Barangay officials boarded the vessel and found no cargo or any documents on board. CG Station Currimao is presently conducting investigation to locate the crew of the said abandoned vessel.
Comment: There’s only one vessel more or less meeting description given by Philippines CG - Ocean Star IMO 7122106, dwt 300, built 1970, flag S-Vincent.
