China’s cheap newbuilds may be too costly

German freighter Maria Elise on July 29 suffered grounding in Kiel Kanal, and after refloating blackout, towed to Bremen. Interesting to note – if there’s accident with a new vessel, there’s already kind of reflectory movement – looking at place of build, and of course, it’s China. China newbuild costs may be cheap, but may turn up to be too costly. General cargo Maria Elise – IMO 9534250, dwt 6310, built 2009 China, manager HS Schiffahrts GmbH & Co.
