Pirates fired upon German boxship


Fairplay March 12 - pirates shot bullet holes into a German-owned box ship’s funnel and a crane in the Indian Ocean, but failed to hijack the vessel, EU NAVFOR said today. MV Lübeck, previously owned by China Shipping Container Lines was attacked the morning of 11 March about 450 n-miles northeast of the Seychelle, the EU’s anti-piracy force said. The Liberia-flagged Lübeck was en route to Salalah when was attacked from the rear, with pirates opening fire with automatic weapons, the force added. No injuries were reported.
