Drilling ship Chikyu
The "Chikyu" lost one of its propulsion pods in the tsunami on Mar 11. The ship was in port of Hachinohe on the northern tip of Honshu, about 270 km north of Sendai when the quake occurred. The ship departed from port with full speed. During this maneuver a propeller nacelles was torn off. The "Chikyu" is currently at anchor in front of Hachinohe. She is still maneuverable because of its on the whole six propeller nacelles. However, the ship will now first have to be repaired in dry dock, the 337th IODP drilling expedition has been canceled which was planned in the basin off the island of Honshu. Coral Ring
Vessel was discharging coal at Onahama and has sustained damage to her hull from colliding with the quay wall. All crewmembers safe. Bulk carrier Coral Ring IMO 9337092, dwt 75395, built 2006, flag Panama, owner Mizuho Sangyo Japan.
Shirouma

Shiramizu
Vessel with 70000 mt of coal was about to start discharging in Shinchi area, when tsunami strikes – hull was damaged and holed, fuel leak reported. Crew reported to be safe. Shiramizu IMO 9326299, dwt 91439, built 2005, flag Japan, owner NYK Line.
C. S. Victory

Chinasteel Integrity

Asia Symphony
General cargo Asia Symphony was washed onto the road along the shore of Kamaishi by the tsunami of Mar 11, 2011, and remained high and dry when the floods receded. Asia Symphony IMO 9178070, dwt 6175, built 1998, flag Panama, owner Shinwa Group Tokyo.
Glovis Mercury

Khrizolitoviy
Russian reefer Khrizolitoviy was berthed in Ofunato port, Japan, on March 11 2011, when tsunami striked. Vessel broke off moorings and was dragged by tsunami on shore, then when tsunami retreated vessel was dragged back to the water. Main engine was damaged, and finally, by strong tides vessel was dragged aground. 13 of 15 crew were taken on board of Japansese fishing vessel, there is no way now to reach the shore. 2 were on shore when tsunami striked, they’re now in rehabilitation center. Vessel under construction or in repairs?
A ship with 80 dock workers was swept away from a shipyard in Miyagi prefecture. All on the ship was believed to be safe, although the vessel had sprung a leak and was taking on some water, Japan's coast guard said.

Emu Arrow
Emu Arrow during the earthquake on Mar 11, 2011, was caught by tsunami waves while she was discharging cargo at the port of Kashima. The ship collided with other ships, but remained afloat a short distance from her berth at Kashima. Due to a strong current, her main engine and bow thruster were being used to maintain position and the vessel was responding well. There were indications of quite extensive damage to her hull but no oil spill has been detected. A company representative is on his way to Kashima to assist with damage assessments. The ship is now well anchored, and the crew will spend the evening and night to get an overview of the extent of damage. None of the crew of 26 was injured.
