Latest pirates attacks in GoA and Indian ocean, reported by Maritime Assistance Center (MAC) Securewest International:
While transiting the Gulf of Aden on 04-FEB-2011 in a convoy led by a Chinese Naval Vessel, the SIKYON was approached twice by pirates in two skiffs while underway in position 12 19 N, 043 47 E. On the second approach, the 2 skiffs came within 1nm of the SIKYON. A Chinese helicopter fired warning shots at the two skiffs forcing them to abandon their efforts to further approach or attack the SIKYON. General cargo Sikyon IMO 9379650, dwt 32029, built 2007, flag Marshall Islands, manager Maritime Equity Management NY USA.
On 05-FEB-2011 at 08:50 UTC, the Vessel CMA CGM CHOPIN was attacked by 5 pirates in one skiff while underway in position 10 36 N, 065 26 E, 425nm W of Kavaratti Island, Lakshadweep. The Vessel increased speed and used evasive maneuvers with the pirates ending their efforts to attack further. CMA CGM CHOPIN confirmed she was safe at 09:45 UTC. On 05-FEB-2011 at 03:15 UTC, the PUELCHE was attacked by 6 armed pirates while underway in position 10 21' 2" N, 065 27' 7" E, approx 423nm W of Kavaratti Island, Lakshadweep. Vessel was able to escape the attack. Boxship Puelche IMO 9306287, dwt 81243, capacity 6541 TEU, built 2007, flag Liberia, manager Doehle P, Germany.
