Tanker USICHEM disabled after fire, Mediterranean

Fire broke out in engine room of product tanker USICHEM in Mediterranean sea on Apr 19, some 50 nm southeast of eastern coast of Rhodes Island. Master reported to Greek CG and MRCC, that fire was extinguished, but vessel is disabled, drifting. According to Master’s report, crew will try to fix engine and resume sailing, not clear yet if they’ll manage it, or contract towage. At 1300 UTC Apr 19 tanker was drifting in vicinity 35 50N 028 50E. Tanker with 5900 tons of sunflower oil is en route from Russia to Sudan.
